Take Flight: Invited New England Artists
Exhibitions with a particular theme provide the opportunity to show a variety of work by numerous artists. The theme of “take flight” can be interpreted in many ways and can include “winged” things such as birds, insects, kites and planes, but can also solicit philosophical and social commentary.

Joe Hemes: Shelters
Joe Hemes is an architect and artist who lives with his family in South Portland, Maine. As an artist, he focuses on the manipulation of light to create mystical experiences. His illuminated sculptures cast shadows and project a fabric of colored light. This most recent body of work was initiated during his 2016 Haystack Open Residency. With “Shelters,” Hemes’ intent is to whimsically reveal our universal need for inner sanctum, while illuminating our humanity.
