Carole Rabe

My work is specific to time and place. I receive my inspiration from intense observation, exploring how the human eye perceives the things around us, and how the hand and the heart work to put a particular moment in time on canvas.

My imagery is personal; I need some connection to my subject matter in order for me to claim it in a painting. The way light reflects on a countertop or hits the side of a chair is the spark that gets the painting started. My paintings are about the relationship between the colors, shapes, and values that are created by the color of light.

The images in this exhibition are representations of rooms in my home, painted during different times of the day.
