Kate Emlen

Kate Emlen’s paintings search for a way to communicate both the cohesive and fractured experience of the landscape — changes that take place over seconds and years. She paints the same motifs, so that they become part of her body memory, looking for ways to express the time of shifting light, the recognition that every moment is different than the one before, and that those moments also co-exist. Through imagery that shifts between disintegration and integration, Emlen intends to communicate the nature of memory. She spends her time between Norwich, Vermont and Brooksville, Maine.
