Rick Fox
Rick Fox is known for the rugged energy and colliding color shapes in his emotionally charged portraits and plein air landscapes. “There isn’t a blueprint.” he says “I think it’s human nature to want certainty, to discover a way of doing things, but it’s all too exciting out there. The information, in flux, comes from all angles and the desire to hang on for the ride forces spontaneous invention.”
Rick is represented by Gallery NAGA, Boston, Tregony Contemporary, Cornwall, UK, and the Courthouse Gallery, Ellsworth, ME. He has exhibited extensively and has also been included in recent shows at the Painting Center, NYC, Field Projects, NYC, and the Ballinglen Museum of Art, Co. Mayo, Ireland. Rick attended University of Massachusetts, Amherst (BFA, Painting), Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MFA, Painting), and studied painting and drawing at Scuola Lorenzo de’ Medici, Florence, Italy. Awards received include a fellowship at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation (2020), the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation’s Artist Advancement Grant (2022) and the Blanche E. Colman Award (2024). Rick taught full time for 16 years at University of New Hampshire and Assumption College. With a grant administered by the William James Association in partnership with the N.E.A, he was “artist in residence” for a year at the Federal Prison at FMC Devens in Ayer, MA where he developed and taught a Painting and Drawing program for inmates.
