This one-day workshop will introduce students to plein air painting through a collaboratively designed curriculum. The morning will be spent working through exercises exploring elements of landscape painting including composition, value, color, & mark-making. After a brief lunch break, we’ll spend the remainder of the afternoon diving into a longer study of the alluring York River view from the George Marshall Store Gallery property. We will end with time to share and debrief before breaking for the day.

Students will be encouraged to investigate their own tendencies and processes, with access to the knowledge and experience of four established New England plein air painters. Demonstrations will be conducted in oil, but acrylic and gouache are welcome, along with all experience levels.
